I agree with your read of the announcement…they have found some gas but not sure how much. Electric logging will give them a better idea.
This was a wildcat well and we knew all along the chances of success were slim (especially without the benefit of a seismic survey). But the fact that gas readings have occurred from 1,320’ to 3,834’ is encouraging. There’s a lot of formations in that 2,500’ so maybe there are some good gas accumulations there. You will only know for sure with a DST or flow test.
I think the presence of fluorescence is good. That is usually an indicator that oil may be present.
Even if this well is P&A I think it will have provided a lot of useful info for future exploration.
