Hi davidols, just as an example, the smelter in Portland put forth a multiplyer effect of about 7 jobs for every job with alcoa. ( from the research paper put forward in the early eighties)

Alcoa here pulled in 3 extra engineering companies for construction and maintenance, extra electrical co, transport both port & road, construction co's etc. down to cleaning co's & computer tech co.
the town itself went thru a growth spurt of about 3000 extra people at the height of construction with a significant amout staying which has pushed the retail sector.

so where ever the plant is set up that comunity/region will reap the rewards over a long period
