The brain is wired for certainty, and designed to look for threats. When people who need certainty don’t get the news they expected, they assume there is a threat and sometimes just think the worst or make shit up. Those who have been involved in a company transformation to a different way of operating eg. Matrix organisation becoming a functional organisation, will know about the water cooler conversations from those who need certainty, it’s not a great place to be. We thought we’d have news last week, and when it didn’t come, the worst is expected. It’s out of our control so strap in, have a beverage, and what will be will be. I’m a glass half full kinda guy, which makes it challenging when you get a surprise eg ACL phase III clinical trial disaster. I loaded up with more EYE last week as I really feel we are on to a cracker.
