"Gary Gray says he wants to see 10 floating LNG plants off WA's coast to make Australia the leader in the advanced technology.
The shadow resources minister said the days of building onshore LNG plants may have past because of increasing costs.
In a speech to an oil and gas conference in Melbourne yesterday, Mr Gray said an onshore LNG plant cost about $US225 a tonne of annual LNG production 10 years ago but that this was predicted to grow almost 10-fold within the next five years.
He said FLNG platforms may be built overseas but Australia could position itself as the technological leader in design, operation and maintenance."
Hey Gazza there's a little Australian company Based in Perth that can build cost effective LNG plants without the need to stick a ship under them.
