A student living block with just shy of 200 beds is planned for a Perth university suburb.

Now on exhibition is the proposal for a nine-storey development at 55 and 57 Fairway, Crawley, opposite the University of WA Crawley campus.

The plans by Planning Solution for proponent A & R Development Holdings comprise 199 beds across floors 1 to 8 with amenities including a lounge/common room, dining room, quiet study, gym, multipurpose wellness room, outdoor terrace and pool on the top floor.

The rooms would be in a mix of typologies.

The ground floor would include a lobby, cafe, lounge area, communal lounge and study area, accommodation reception and office, with two courtyards connected to the cafe.

The development floorspace would total 1214 square metres. The block is valued in the planners’ report at $29.6 million.

The block would have basement parking for 17 cars bays, including one accessible bay and parking for 64 bicycles.

A & R Development Holdings is a Claremont-headquartered company. ASIC record list Andrew John Hopkins as director.

▲ Renders of the student living block proposed for Crawley, about 4.5km south-west of Perth city centre.

The site is within the municipality of the City of Perth, about 4.5km south-west of the WA capital’s CBD.

The purpose-built student accommodation sector in WA has experienced healthy growth during the past few years.

In April, the City of Perth voted unanimously to approve an amendment to Accord Property’s plans for 641 Wellington Street.

The developer, who has been working on the proposal for about five years, successfully sought to add two storeys to bring the tower to 18 levels, increasing beds from 450 to 540.

And in November, UniLodge submitted plans for a 32-storey, 832-bed tower, designed by Rothelowman, for a site at 609 Wellington Street.

UniLodge, the largest student accommodation provider in Australia, manages 36,000 beds across 105 facilities nationally.
