you are correct. although with CNP (card not present), like the tap on amdroid, there may be less verification as it is moreso an API which can be connected to an existing gateway. Literally all solution are verified before bring rolled out. Different acquirers (the enitity that holds the acquirung licence) likely have internally verified varying devices. this is why some terminals are used with some acquirers and others are not. firinstance, nayax - the yellow machine on vending machines, only has been verified by a few acquirers as thus csnnot be offered as a solution by all. If a NAB merchant with 1000 vending machines wanted to put in nayax ddvices (the indusyry leader) then theyd have to go sonewhere else (not NAB) to get the deal done.
