H3N2V (variant) strain is causing outbreaks out-of-season in the US. CDC is downplaying Human to Human transmission and blaming it on contact with Pigs. Selective testing with those having contaact with swine using insensitive tests.

It sounds highly likely that the flu strain currently sweeping across Australia is the same strain as causing problems in the US - but have seen no confirmation from the Australian health authorities other than the staement that the vaccine is not a good match (ie not providing protection).
Can anyone enlighten us further?
