    Heres some examples of how this is managed. Plus crews have extensive inductions which covers off on to manage this along with ongoing prestarts and toolboxes that discuss heat and fatigue.

    Fatigue management shall be carried out in accordance with XXX procedures and WHS-XXX-PRO-032 Fatigue Management.
    XXX are aware that fatigue can result from long or arduous work, little or poor sleep, the time of day when the work is performed and the amount of sleep obtained. It can be influenced by health and emotional issues or by several of these factors in combination.
    Fatigue indicators include, but are not limited to:
     Not feeling refreshed after sleep;
     A greater tendency to fall asleep while at work;
     More frequent naps during leisure hours;
     Feelings of fatigue or sleepiness;
     Extended sleep during days off; and
     Increased errors and loss of concentration at work.
    Employees have considerable responsibilities for fatigue management. They are the persons who will suffer directly if they do not fulfil the obligations of their ‘Duty of Care’ to themselves.
    There are many reasons why a person may not be fit for work. XXX provides the opportunity and support mechanisms which allow an employee or contractor to discuss any lifestyle, health, or medical condition they may have, with their Manager or SHE Coordinator.
    XXX empowers all employees with the responsibility to cease working if they feel fatigued, without prejudice.

    Construction personnel shall be limited to working 10 hours per day for a 13-day fortnight with a non-scheduled work day being a Sunday.
    On a work site, a person can work up to 12 hours from the normal start time without authorisation, if the person has had the standard breaks.
    No person will be given authorisation to work past 12 hours unless the person’s Supervisor has approval within 10 hours of commencing the shift. If the Supervisor is not available, authorisation is required from the Manager.
    If a longer shift has been undertaken, then those persons are still limited to achieving at least 10 hours off site before they can start working again.

    Heat stress, the general term that describes a variety of symptoms produced when the human body is exposed to a combination of heat that interferes with the body’s ability to dissipate the heat energy. Heat stress is a function of total heat load and includes the level of activity and environmental conditions. Heat stress in managed within XXX in accordance with WHS-XXX-SWP-017 Working in Hot and Cold Environments. Additional initiatives such as heat stress training and education, suitable cold rest areas at the work front and hydration testing are employed to eliminate the risk of heat stress events occurring.
