Number portability in its simplist form mate will be a knockout coupled with unbundling of ADSL - the ability to retain your number and use on VOIP - and hence dispense with the forced telephone service that goes with ADSL.
For the record I have a universal service (one number), where I can link up my Optus telephone service at home (over cable), with my work number (Telstra) and mobiles (Vodafone, Telstra) - I have one number on my business cards, starting with 0500 - a number I can take with me anywhere in the world and have people get to me - ie: independent of location.
The only number not included in the sequence right now is the VOIP number. Hence, my VOIP phone is used solely for outgoing calls. As soon as this group of numbers can be included in the universal system, I will include it in the sequencing to find me.
Isn't that interesting?
