This is Tesla securing Cobalt supply for battery production, they do not want to fix the battery constraint problem only to be constrained by the next step I.e. the supply of the materials.
I do not think it will their last move in this direction, there is also Lithium and Graphite to secure!
Tesla do not want to rely on other parties, when it comes to producing an annual battery production of 1 Tw, there are billions of $ of vehicle production at stake!
