The measures put up by both Labor and Liberal are pathetic and both should be ashamed of themselves as they are not offering anything worthwhile to anyone.
People who can not afford to run their petrol guzzling cars now will be even less able to do so in the future and a fundamental change is required.
For starters switching to hybrid cars which are on the market would cut most peoples fuel bills by at least 50% straight away. The government could do more to facilitate this and it would be good environmental policy as well.
In the longer term revising the layout of new housing developments and the provision of better public transport should be a priority.
