    In 2010, the friendly and cooperative relationship between the People's Republic of China and the United Republic of Tanzania remained sound and continued to develop in depth.

    The two countries had close high-level exchanges and political mutual trust continued to deepen. On 6 November, President Hu Jintao sent a congratulatory message to President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete on his reelection as president of Tanzania. In the same month, after the new Tanzanian parliament and government took office, NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao sent congratulatory messages to Speaker of the National Assembly Anne Semamba Makinda and Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda respectively. Vice President Xi Jinping sent congratulatory messages to Zanzibar President of the United Republic of Tanzania Ali Mohammed Shein and Vice President of Tanzania Mohammed Gharib Bilal successively. From 19 to 21 April, NPC Vice Chairwoman Yan Junqi visited Tanzania. She met with Prime Minister Pinda and held talks with Speaker of the National Assembly Samuel John Sitta. From 22 to 28 May, President of Zanzibar Amani Abeid Karume visited China for the Expo Shanghai 2010.

    Bilateral economic relations and trade made good progress. Bilateral trade volume increased steadily. In January, Commerce Minister Chen Deming visited Tanzania and the two sides signed the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation Between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar of the United Republic of Tanzania. In July, Vice Commerce Minister Chen Jian visited Tanzania. Steady progress was made in a number of projects with Chinese assistance, including the Nyerere International Convention Center, the Chalinze Water Supply Project and the 14th Phase of Technical Cooperation for Tanzania-Zambia Railway as well as preferential loans to the National Fiber-Optic Backbone and the Zanzibar International Airport. In October, Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Industry, Trade and Marketing Joyce Mapunjo visited China and attended economic and trade activities in Yiwu.

    Relations between the militaries of China and Tanzania continued to strengthen. In May, Member of the Central Military Commission and Chief of the General Staff General Chen Bingde visited Tanzania. In October, the Peace Ark hospital ship of the Chinese Navy visited Tanzania and provided humanitarian medical service.

    Exchanges between the two countries in agriculture, media, sports, education, culture, women's affairs and other fields were frequent and showing a good momentum. A number of Chinese delegations visited Tanzania, including Vice Minister of Agriculture Niu Dun, Vice Minister of the General Administration of Press and Publication Li Dongdong, Vice Minister of the General Administration of Sports Feng Jianzhong, member of the Leading Party Members' Group of Xinhua News Agency Liu Yue, President of the East China Normal University Yu Lizhong and Hunan Folk Art Troupes. In May, First Lady of Tanzania Salma Kikwete visited China for the Global Summit of Women. In July, Tanzanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Marketing Mary Nagu attended the National Pavilion Day of Tanzania at the Shanghai Expo. In August, Tanzanian Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Cooperatives Mohamed Muya participated in the Forum on China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation in Chin
