Inflammation in cancer cells
Cancer treatments. Associate Professor Gantier is studying how DNA damage initiates inflammatory responses that build resistance against chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This collaborative work with an industry partner, has the potential to revolutionise the efficacy of front-line treatments such as radiotherapy against multiple cancers.

Cancer drug investigated for severe COVID-19 treatment
The team discovered that an existing cancer drug could help limit toxic inflammation arising with low oxygen levels in severe COVID-19 patients. Industry partner, Noxopharm, is conducting a Phase I clinical trial in severe COVID-19 patients in Eastern Europe to determine the therapeutic potential of this approach to decrease COVID-19 mortality. This work has seen a new Australian drug development company formed as the result of a collaboration between Noxopharm Limited (ASX:NOX) and Hudson Institute, with a specific focus on life-threatening inflammation.
