benbradley are those violent crimes involving a firearm?
Note the much lower rate of homicide. Also the looser definition of violent crime in Britain and changes to drinking hours laws. This is an issue that leads to amazingly misleading statistics on all sides.
Ultimately however pushing to ban firearms will not succeed in the US even though their 2nd amendment can easily be reinterpreted to not support individual firearm ownership.
The core issue is their poor underclass who are forced into crime and supplied with guns that flood the street and will remain their regardless. Massacres are but a tiny portion of all firearm deaths in America. The middle class with guns can top themselves and their loved ones at a slightly greater rate but no one really cares about that. The cause for the horrible American statistics is decades of weapons manufacturers getting open slather and terrible income inequality.
The best thing we can hope for is the NRA becoming a bad partner for senators. Not sure what that accomplishes but it stops their loony ideas getting any support.
