It all comes down to what the passer of the ball was doing at that time. If he was standing still then of course it was a forward pass, whereas if he was running at the time of the pass then not necessarily forward. It should get ruled from when it leaves the hands of the passer, as momentum can of the passer plays a role in where the ball gets caught. I fyou throw a stone from a moving car at right angles to the car, it will travel forwards before hitting the ground due to the momentum caused by the car going forward.

A pass can leave the hands of a Player correctly then travel forward. It is not a forward pass.
Seen passes travel a metre forward many a time and they were not forward passes .

As with knockons the Referees/linesmen/women are not going to get it right 100% of the time. imo

Thats the way its been and will be. imo
