THE East Kimberley continues to attract attention with Jubilee Mines' $750,000 backing of unlisted explorer Northern Star Resources the latest corporate movement in the region.

Northern Star features Charles Wilkinson, and Alkane Exploration's Ian Chalmers and Terry Ranstead.

Wilkinson was formerly with WMC Resources and was reportedly instrumental in leading the exploration that discovered the Nebo-Babel nickel mineralisation in the West Musgrave area, and the 2 million ounce Argo gold deposit near Kambalda.

Northern Star holds 2600sq.km of ground in the East Kimberley and plans to spend at least 60% of its exploration budget over the next three years exploring for nickel and base metals.

Jubilee is subscribing for 9.37 million shares at 8 cents and will receive a similar amount of options exercisable at 25 cents.

The nickel miner's subscription is conditional on Northern Star not issuing more than 4 million additional shares and options.

An IPO is planned as soon as practical.

Jubilee joins fellow nickel miner LionOre Mining International as a recent entrant to the region, with LionOre taking a stake in Thundelarra Exploration last week.

Sally Malay Mining is currently in the process of building a nickel mine that will come into production next year.

Meantime Jubilee has tersely announced the exit of chief financial officer Russell Miller. Miller was with the company for around five years, and he's been replaced by Gary Lethridge, formerly of LionOre, Fluor Daniel and Grange Resources.

Miller is the second long time Jubilee executive to leave the company in the last two weeks, with exploration manager Tony Rovira taking up the managing director's role at new IPO Nickel Australia.

Meantime Jubilee continued its outstanding recent form on the ASX , with its shares up 23 cents to $4.62 in late trade.
