A major Sydney hospital has moved to an "internal disaster management response" to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.
Westmead Hospital has reduced ambulance arrivals for COVID patients for 24 hours and is liaising with its private hospital to open up 100 beds. In an update sent to staff, it says it acknowledged it's "no longer working in a business as usual environment" as the number of COVID cases presenting at the facility escalates.
In a statement, the Western Sydney Local Health District says it's "experiencing unprecedented high demand" and is "working with other hospitals to urgently review and prioritise resources" but "emergency care continues to be available to everyone who needs it".
