    bcc I agree that renewable energy under the current conditions have no ability to provide baseload. thats obvious and I've never argued otherwise.

    but coal is failing, turbines and boiler are crashing. that part of the system is a dying sector. we need a replacement and fast.

    imo batteries won't cover it, gas can with adequate funding - no business will engage to build enough gas due to the peaking operation expectations, therefore theres no certainty of profitable operations. sure they build some to help replace coal, eg. AGL building 2 plants, but none will engage to build ENOUGH gas-fired turbines.

    this is one reason why I say that nuclear is inevitable.

    so why didn't the Libs get their fingers out and build more gas plants?
