The EML trial never went ahead because the phone companies came to the party. I suspect it was used as more of a threat then anything else. Once Apple agreed the rest fell in line and that was that.
Transport NSW don't actually like the "reloadable cards". The can't use/spend the unclamined money so they are sitting on an ever growing pile of cash from cards that were loaded and never tapped again. Current issue is they can't offer concession on credit card/phone taps.
Transport NSW has the more readers than any other merchant in the country so all the big boys will play nice with them as they don't want their customers inconvenienced. EML has close to 0% chance of any involvment.
