Despite a number of examples of Sydneysiders doing the wrong thing, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said there’s no need to cut the city off from the rest of the planet because Sydneysiders can be trusted to do the right thing.
Speaking ahead of the clockwork 11am press conference, the Premier spoke briefly to this masthead via telephone, where the leader outlined her plan to get out of this mess.
“Well, at this stage there is no plan,” she said.
“Without the Feds coming in with some JobKeeper, I don’t know what else we can do. I mean, there’s disaster payments and whatnot but in order to get them, you need to go to Centrelink and apply for them. You can’t already be on a welfare payment. So there’s that, I need the Feds to grow a set and help us out,”
“But in terms of the ring of steel, I don’t think Sydneysiders need to be fenced in. Yes, there are a few people that have caused a lot of economic and social pain. Like the removalists that went down to Melbourne. The ones that ent out to the Central West. That clown who got told to isolate for two weeks because he’d literally been breathed on by someone with the virus but he thought he’d just go up to Queensland a few times, now a hostie got it and might’ve spread it to Western Queensland,”
“Ah, then there’s flights to Ballina. They’re running at 100% capacity despite nobody being allowed to leave their home in Sydney,”
“Look, they’re not the ones who have the virus. Well, some of them do. I don’t know, it’s all up in the air at the moment.”
