I do agree with you RE shtty jobs... Australia has a very large number of older unemployed. When I worked for an employment agency as liaison to the Dept of human services, the average length of time to find a job over 40 in QLD was 50+ weeks. In particular there were a growing number of career truck drivers on our case load struggling to find placements. I remember submitting a proposal to offer TAFE programs to train practically experienced truck drivers how to assess newly licenced caravan owners in the safe operation of a towed heavy vehicle. While thats a relatively small sector, there is broadly a lack of future thinking when it comes to transferable skills and the fluidity of employment if we think outside the square. Alas, it is easier and more supported by business groups to import cheaper labour for existing structures.
