    Whereas horizontal wells in coal seems may not use hydraulic fracturing (fraccing), when extracting shale oil or gas and tight oil or gas fraccing is used. Fraccing started in the Amadeus Basin much earlier than the 1990s - to my knowledge in the 1960s.
