Hi mate, I really don't understand the how's and why's of bots, but I believe they are typically run by the larger institutions and brokerage firms. Motivations can be to hold the share price down (presumuably for someone to be able to purchase at low prices), push it up (presumably for someone to then sell into), or hold it in a certain range (for who knows what reason... perhaps to help guarantee a certain price when equity raisings are made). Bots are usually identifiable by the oddly sized parcels (usually literally too small for your average investor to be able to make), and they often occur right before close to result in the closing price for the day being brought down a notch etc (to effect charting i guess?)...
