I read a report recently regarding the storage of spent fuel which is all stored on site at the various nuclear plants in the US. The reason being that a storage facility in the mountains somewhere of which the name escapes me, has never been completed.
Interstingly I also read that it was in fact a breach of the US laws for spent fuel to remain stored on site at nuclear facilities. So what do the US authorities do... amend the law of course!
Anyway nuclear has no future in the long term IMO given that we live in an environment that is driven by unsustainable economic growth AND we have a finite source of resources. There will be no room for nuclear once the economic reset occurs and the denial ends.
