Chinese snap up stakes in two more uranium players

Chinese interests have secured substantial stakes in two more Australian uranium juniors, A-Cap Resources and Impact Minerals.

China Growth Minerals has picked up a 16.22 per cent stake in A-Cap and a 12.68 per cent stake in Impact Minerals through a deal with Polo Resources, the investment group headed by Canadian uranium entrepreneur Stephen Dattels. Both juniors are exploring in Botswana. The transaction, revealed in substantial shareholder notices filed to the Australian Securities Exchange on Friday, is the latest confirmation that Chinese groups have stepped up their interest in Australia's uranium players.

Chinese companies have already launched bids for Energy Metals, which has an advanced uranium deposit in the Northern Territory, and minnow RMA Energy, which has assets in uranium, tin and coal.

Polo is a significant investor in Australian resources projects, including uranium hopeful and market darling Extract Resources. China has 13 nuclear reactors under construction and has been a big buyer of uranium on spot markets.
