"The dwindling number of climate change deniers coupled with the increasing frequency of extreme events has convinced the vast majority to not only the cause, but also the urgency of a suitable response by governments."
It does not matter whether it is real or not, people have been conditioned to believe that it is real and some would say "that is all that matters". The strategy to convince them has been successful. They are not true believers in the cause, they are simply trying to fit in with society. If they deeply understood what they were supporting I would see it as a positive step forward, but I think it is dangerous that many support it with only a shallow insight into the matter as this only proves how vulnerable to suggestion they are.

They likely lack the lateral thinking skills to realise that their governments cannot stop larger polluters like China or that their own habits of purchasing goods Made in China and India is funding pollution, yet they protest or support protesting as though the government can wave a magic wand and change foreign jurisdictions or all their personal choices.

They also shy away from personal responsibility and accountability. Maybe they could talk to their neighbours about no longer buying take-away from establishments that use plastic cutlery (also Made in China) or dissuade them from buying every new iPhone that is released.

It is an issue that is mostly in their own hands. If they want to establish manufacturing in Australia where they can produce goods sustainably, then they should form cooperatives and make it happen. If they want to reduce plastic waste, they could look at implementing a reusable cutlery scheme at their local shops. They are simply too blinded to form a community driven plan and in any case appear to have been weaponised to attack the government rather than seek their own solutions.

In summary, there are many solutions right under their noses but people are barking up the wrong tree. We will eventually get there, but the journey will be longer and more painful than was necessary.
