Love Rex. Joined the navy with him. His views on Subs are interesting. I like the Nuclear power subs range, efficiency over the significant known huge issues of very short range, diving duration and very high exposure of Deisel Eletric subs. Highly exposed when burning diesel to recharge batteries. He missed a recent event sadly so did not get to chat with him about this. Not that I would change his mind. I know he understand the significant limitations of conventional submarines. His opposition is mor about where things are built and local employment! A bespoke ship yard for just a few submarines has been tried here for the Collins class. That costs a lot more than it was worth in my view!

Other Negative yarn I read with interest was The end of Oppenheimer’s nuclear energy dream: Modular reactors supported by ideology alone ""

Allison Macfarlane is happily No longer Chairwomen of the NRC since 2014!
"(full disclosure: I was Chairman of the NRC from 2012-2014)."

The hijacking by people with clearly anti nuclear view in government bodies formed to help not stop beneficial civilian uses of Nuclear Energy.
"About NRC. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) was created as an independent agency by Congress in 1974 to ensure the safe use of radioactive materials for beneficial civilian purposes while protecting people and the environment."

Allison has clearly shown her stripes! Nothing in her article supports the safe use for beneficial civilian purposes at all! She and others are entitled to their views. They are not entitled to roles opposed to the objectives of the NRC and other government bodies!

Another vowed Anti-Nuclear power person is hopefully not about to get his role renewed.

Weeding is required at times. Doomberg substack and Uranium inside both raised a clearly anti nuclear person who hopefully is NOT back in a BLOCK and obstruct everything taxpayer funded role diametrically apposed the clearly stated objectives and role of the government organization.

All sides some times need a bit of a rain check of course

    "r. Nuclear physicist Alvin
    M. Weinberg told the U.S. Senate’s Special Committee on
Atomic Energy in December 1945, “Atomic power can cure
as well as kill. It can fertilize and enrich a region as well as
devastate it. It can widen man’s horizons as well as force
him back into the cave.” Newsweek reported that “even the
most conservative scientists and industrialists [are] willing
to outline a civilization which would make the comic-strip
prophecies of Buck Rogers look obsolete.” Observing that
ideas for the civilian uses of atomic energy ranged “from the
practical to the fantastic,” it cited a few examples: (1) atomic-powered airplanes, rockets, and automobiles, (2) large
electrical generating stations, (3) small “home power plants”
to provide heat and electricity to individual homes, and (4)
tiny atomic generators wired to clothing to keep a person
cool in summer and warm in winter"

From NRC book which is worth a read "A Short History of Nuclear Regulation 1946–2009"
