Well yes and no. If the planet's surface temperature increases then CO2 also gets released into the atmosphere so cause and effect are difficult to determine. But historical evidence suggests that planet warming preceded increases in atmospheric CO2 concentrations. In any event there are far more potent energy absorbing gases. No doubt though we should be trying to minimize fossil fuel use, because fossil fuels are useful but limited.
