Currently the leader in the SMR development, Nuscale, has just cancelled its first working reactor because of cost blow outs. SMRs will not be available until near the end of this decade and this prediction was before the Nuscale set back. On a per kilowatt hour cost SMRs are far more expensive than large reactors. Nuclear power apart from its availability, or lack of, is simply too expensive, unsafe, dependant on finite fuel and unacceptable for public to embrace.
