Radiation exposure has always been around from natural sources like radiation from the ground and from the sun, but humans and other animals have had many generations to adapt to it. Some people are more sensitive than others but medical science tells us that even small doses are cumulative so doctors are reluctant to prescribe too many X-ray or CT scan procedures.Children are more vulnerable to exposure.https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/radiation/health.html

You have assumed it was the motivation behind my anti-uranium stance, my involvement in action against the Ben Lomond mine and my posts on this forum. The truth is that my involvement began three years before my father's cancer diagnosis of cancer, the cause of which was almost certainly that of his service at Marling. Although sworn to secrecy, both he and his medical colleagues believed that to be the cause, as did the government, because his hospital cover was picked up by Repatriation.
The Ben Lomond mine is a good example of how dangerous uranium can be, because there had been several incidents (documented by the mine operators) of serious contamination to the waterway during the mining of ore samples and following rain.Yet full mining operations including ore crushing and tailings production had not commenced.The Queensland Government Mining Warden's Court decision in 1981 effectively closed the mine declaring it unsafe on several grounds. The point is there were severe problems even before the mining of uranium began.

My good friend Andy Stapelton and his crew flew a Lincoln through the area around was it Monte Bello islands or wherever we allowed the poms to let off their firecrackers measuring radoactivity . Andy was in his twenties then and last heard still going strong.

However imagine the poms (or anyone) being allowed to test nuclear bombs here now.!!
