"NEI, on behalf of the U.S. commercial nuclear industry, applauds Congress for passing the Consolidated Appropriations Act, which allocates important funding to support our nuclear industry, including $2.72 billion to support the expansion of our domestic uranium enrichment capabilities, covering both low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel technologies. This investment is pivotal in enhancing our nation's energy independence and bolstering our global competitiveness in advanced nuclear technology.
By strengthening our domestic nuclear fuel supply capacity, we ensure a reliable fuel cycle for both our current and next-generation nuclear reactors. This is crucial for achieving our decarbonization goals and securing a sustainable clean energy future.
The funding appropriated through this legislation is critical to ensuring the American people and businesses across the country continue to benefit from the clean, reliable and affordable energy nuclear provides today and will provide tomorrow.
