The important thing to understand is that renewables cannot replace fossil fuel power .... the intermittent nature of the power generated means that back up power or base load is required ...if the human race wants to reduce the reliance on power generated by fossil fuel then nuclear power must be embraced as the only alternative ....
there must be a mix of power sources
coal
gas
wind/solar
Hydro if available
and
nuclear
... then transition to a greater nuclear component as time progresses
