The problems begin as soon as the highly concentrated ore is removed from the ground and begins to react with oxygen. when the ore is crushed creating fine particles its surface area is increased enormously making it more reactive as well as creating radioactive dust particles. Because most of the radioactivity remains in the tailings and is dumped into dams, ther is a further problem with birds and animals accessing the dam water, spreading contamination wider. That is only the start of the problem. Next time you go to the doctor or dentist they will be hesitant regarding your Xray history should you require one because radioactive exposure is cumulative and no limit is considered medically "safe".
