"The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said before construction could even start, there's about a 30-month process to issue the necessary license."
Then we have to get a loan guarantee during that time then we will have to build it so still maybe 2028?

Potential laser uranium enrichment facility could come to Paducah

WEST PADUCAH, Ky. — A first-of-its-kind laser enrichment facility could be coming to Paducah.
It would turn the depleted uranium "tails" in storage at the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant site into reusable fuel.
It could also boost Paducah’s economy in the process.
Local leaders and the company behind it, Global Laser Enrichment, have signed an agreement laying the groundwork for the potential project.
Two hundred thousand metric tons of depleted uranium is stored at Paducah’s Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
Thanks to an agreement signed by local leaders, Global Laser Enrichment now has the option to acquire a plot of land adjacent to the plant and build a facility that would convert that uranium into something valuable.
Eddie Jones, McCracken County commissioner and chair of the Paducah Area Community Reuse Organization, said when he first took office, he was told the uranium would be worth something one day.
“The world is using more uranium than it is mining now. So why does it help Paducah? Well, it turns out, you know, maybe it was right that we have the equivalent of a uranium mine sitting on a parking lot in McCracken County,” Jones said.
The facility would cost more than $1 billion dollars to build and, according to the Department of Energy, could bring 800 to 1,200 jobs.
“That's a huge investment. And I don't think it's quite as many, I don't think the process involves quite as many employees as the gaseous diffusion, but it does involve more employees (strange statement?)” said Jones.
Another added benefit is the spotlight other resources Paducah has to offer will receive.
“Bringing attention, world attention to, 'Hey, not only do we have some uranium here, we got some nickel here, too,'” Jones said.
Jones said the parties involved are exploring their options and nothing is set in stone.
“That's not happening yet. But it is pushing us down that path and a long game toward understanding that there are some valuable assets sitting on a parking lot out in Paducah,” said Jones.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said before construction could even start, there's about a 30-month process to issue the necessary license.
In the meantime, the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce will host a workshop for local businesses interested in participating in the cleanup effort of the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.
That will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Paducah Bank Community Room at the Commerce Center. The workshop is free, but registration is required.
