The Dutton dream was to use SMRs, but as they are not available and at a predicted far greater cost than large nuclear, he has changed his mind. Unless one is a climate change denier, plans and decisions need to be made now, on available evidence and cost. The Dutton nuclear plan would only provide 3.5% of the required power, which is insufficient for Australia's predicted power demands. Obviously things may change as various technologies develop, but plans need to be made now with what's currently available.
