The reality is somewhat different than that to which you allude. China is installing the wind and solar equivalent of 5 large nuclear power stations per week, with 10GW of wind and solar every fortnight. For firming they are installing 1GW per month of pumped hydro, while their coal generating is falling. Their nuclear power plans have been steadily downgraded since 2011, to the current target of 18% by 2060. Chinese installed only 1 GE of nuclear last year compared to 300 GW of solar and wind.
