The DoE has announced the winners of their Enrichment RFP. It's a year late and the awardees are much as expected:
1 - Centrus Energy (ACO) 2 - Urenco-USA (LES) 3 - Orano (proposed new plant in TN) 4 - General Matter
Only one of the 5 companies that submitted proposals, was rejected. That appears to be GLE or LIST.
GLE was waffling on this RFP and they really don't need it. As I've explained, they already have a DoE contract to recycle depleted UF6.The DoE's objective was to spread the risk for greater diversity of supply.
Which is demonstrated by including General Matter, a tiny start-up with no website. I suspect this is the stealth US arm of ASPI, which is working on chemical enrichment:announcements.asx.com.au/asxpdf/2023012…
A bigger mystery is where is LIS Technology?
It seems that this RFP would be critical for them.What's also unsaid, is that $2.7 billion is only a fraction of what's required to build thousands of new centrifuges (and then 3X more to "triple nuclear power").
This bottleneck is the greatest bear-case for uranium miners. But, at least the US has a framework now for additional appropriations.
