In 14.5 years most of the fanboys solar panels and windmills will be derelict, screaming out for expensive clean up and replacement (all using more hydrocarbons). Batteries likely will have to have been replaced twice by then, and if not their returns will be appalling.
Not to mention the fact that we have already extracted the easy to reach minerals, it only gets harder and more expensive to get the deeper, less accessible stuff.
One of the most enlightening comments by Dr G at the AGM was how nuclear power plants, with life spans of 60/80/100+ years are "inter-generational" replacing previous "inter-generational" coal fired power stations. As opposed to the Rube Goldberg machines our imbecile Minister is committed to at present.
