Winter blizzards and ice storms (particularly freezing rain) have a devastating effect on renewable grids (brings windmills/trees/grid pylons down). I was in Montreal in January1998 (see
HERE) and they had an electricity outage for several weeks and cost ~C$2Bn and 34 deaths - people just do not understand their impact (particularly in comparison to the safety of nuclear electricity). Unfortunately also got caught out in the 2016 South Australian blackout (in Port Lincoln - see
HERE) for 3 days - people just do not understand the consequences (no fuel - fuel bowsers need electricity, frozen food thaws - thrown out on the street, can't take credit/debit cards(and ATM's don't work,, people die (heart/kidneys etc). The 2021 Texas blackout was probably the worst.
I guess we will have to get used to them if Bowen's plans come to fruition - their impact could dwarf any cost differences (if their are any) to a more secure energy strategy.
