The UK government certainly has a way of "shooting itself in the foot". For example you would have thought that the climatic/seismic conditions in the UK were similar to France where prior models of the Hinkley point reactors have been operating for years. But "no" the UK nuclear regulator required 7000 modifications (with 35% more steel and 25% more concrete) to be installed at Hinkley Point C and now they are complaining about a massive blow out in costs (see HERE) The saga of the cooling water inlet and fish kill is just a sad laugh.(see HERE) - the number of fish anticipated to be killed is about a day's catch for the fishing port just down the coast.- since it's just cooling water (i.e no radio active contact) they could just sell the fish as a by-product or give it to the operating staff to eat. And then they wonder why there are cost blow outs!
