Hardly a breakthrough, the USSR had hundreds of lighthouses powered by nuclear batteries, and my understanding is that they have turned into a massive but silent environmental disaster as their housings have degraded and the horrible sh1t inside has leaked into the surrounding environment. The problem is extremely dispersed and in very remote locations, which is why it hasn't received any media exposure.
