SWP - It's also worthwh ile note the technology that ASPI are proposing to use for uranium (and Ytterbium) enrichment is AVLIS which was rejected by the USA (actually USEC) around 1999 after considerable expenditure by the USA (see HERE) and Silex was continued with until 2003 (when it was also dropped under pressure from Oak Ridge NL (ORNL) who had a large centrifuge section). Thereafter GEH picked up SILEX in 2006 when the perceived alternative laser technology was AVLIS (according to MG that was how our royalty percentages were formulated). The major issues with AVLIS (apart from high capex) was:
1. Throughput (uses low pressure uranium vapour) was poor
2. Corrosion problems due to the high uranium vapor temperature (see HERE)
Apart from the considerations you outline IMO the ASPI technology is unlikely to be a viable competitor to Silex and also uses uranium metal as feedstock which is more expensive than UF6 (and certainty UF6 tails)
