The basic scientific fact essential in the nuclear debate is: nuclear power plants Cannot cause a nuclear explosion.
A nuclear bomb needs about 90% pure Uranium 235, otherwise it simply will not explode.
Nuclear power plants typically run on about 10% U235.
Purifying U235 beyond even 25% is an incredibly complex and extremely costly process. And that is why terrorist groups simply have not developed the Bomb.
If you have to face those in opposition suggest they have a think about the current Iran nuclear discussion/political word fight for a moment. If Iran is building a bomb, why is it taking so long? Complexity and resources.
And before any of them who watched the endless TV loops of Fukushima exploding, say 'What about Fukumshima?'
That endless TV loop was a steam explosion of the boilers in the power plant failing. Dramatic footage for the uninformed to draw the wrong conclusion; very poor journalism, if the truth is claimed to be any part of the matter. Or perhaps, just gratuitous propaganda for greenies.
Make those desperate in their opposition face the basic facts.
