Was just reading about the Jap sub which was one of the contenders back in 2016. One of the reasons the French one was chose was the diesel propulsion system as against Li-Ion batteries for the Jap's.
Ironic that the French sub is actually nuke powered and ours were going to be retrofitted with diesel! That must stick in the French craw...
What a mess now with the French offside (though that will probably diminish eventually) and probably half the population concerned about having nuke powered vessels in our ports.
