There is a delicate balance between equipping ourselves for war & the consequent expense
to protect our sovereignty and our country going broke because of it.
The Soviet Union (USSR) ultimately went broke and disintegrated due to its arms race
to keep up with the Americans and, IMO , the US ran close to that too and it really
hasn't fully recovered since.
China knows this and over the next decade it will put enormous economic
pressure on the US to keep ahead in the arms race.
Consequently, the USA is doing all in its power to
spread the cost of that. It served notice to NATO members (Mostly EC countries)
to spend 2% of GDP on defence (Interesting ScoMo mentioned yesterday that
we are now spending 2% of GDP on Defence & that will likely rise significantly)
Of course the Sub deal with Jap & Canadian ones to follow is, IMO , part
of the US economic plan to reduce its military spend and to require its allies
to pick up the slack with the US still in Command/Control @ half the price.
& pocketing the extra Sub revenue in the process.
All IMO only
