    Bondi Partners Senior Advisor PeterMcGauran has called on the Albanese government to “at least lift thelegislation” banning the construction of a nuclear power plant because there isa “new generation” of small modular reactors.

    The Coalition has flagged Australia could have a nuclear power industrywithin a decade if it wins the next election.

    Shadow Energy Minister Ted O'Brien claimed the Coalition was engagingwith experts who said it could be achieved in the timeframe.

    “If the government was serious, they would join with the LiberalOpposition and pass it through both houses.

    “At least lift the legislation banning the construction of a nuclearplant.

    “We are in a new generation of small modular reactors … and young peoplewon’t be told they’re not allowed to consider a scientific or climate issue.”
