You don't give anybody anything. There are NO FREE LUNCHES in the world of trades!!!
The US needed to bring break its stagflation. Its companies needed to make bigger profits. And it needed a counter weight to USSR.
And China needed to an open market to trade.
Both sides got what it wanted.
Now, if you want to stop buying Chinese made products - you can. That is within your right. And I have suggested this, to anyone who felt this way..
Yes, you should go buy American made products. Go right ahead.
However, consumers all over the world - including most of those in America, chooses to buy Chinese made products, in order to improve their standards of living. No one forces them to pick the product off the shelf and pay for it at the check-out counter. And their standard of living have improved because of those choices.
Its a FREE MARKET. Everybody makes their own choices - including you, if you decide to buy American.
