i have a vision for an Australian Nuclear Development District in Adelaide, or And da for short.

in this vision i see Adelaide becoming a world nuclear industry powerhouse combining both terrestrial and aquatic modes. Australia could lead the world, again.

we so need all the nuclear reactors we can get to generate all the power to replace our troubled fleet of coal-fired generators wobbling towards their graves. We're told by vested nuclear interests it's the only possible solution.

if we build one plant in Adelaide, we might as well build more, the first should be online by 2050, then one every 20 years after that .

why Adelaide, you may well ask..

as you know, Adelaide has been mentioned in AUKUS discussions as a possible site to establish an Australian nuclear powered submarine construction industry.

how exciting would this be for Adelaide, for a new industry to begin there..it has to be somewhere, might as well be Adelaide.

an interesting and informative piece was published May 1 in interestingengineering.com about delivery to the US Navy of its newest submarine late in April.

Adelaide needs something to happen, lest people forget about it.

here is the start of the piece by INTERESTINGENGINEERING.COM:

"The US Navy has accepted the delivery of its latest Virginia-class nuclear-powered submarine from Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) subsidiary Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS).

"USS New Jersey (SSN 796) is the 11th Virginia-class submarine delivered by NNS and the 23rd built under the teaming agreement with General Dynamics Electric Boat.

"The Virginia-class submarine program had been initiated to replace the US Navy’s Los Angeles-class fleet, which had been in service since the 1970s. HII had built 29 of the 62 Los Angeles-class vessels for the US Navy.

"HII announced in February 2024 that the USS New Jersey had completed its initial sea trials. The company said the vessel spent several days at sea testing its systems and components.

"According to the company, over 10,000 shipbuilders from NNS and Electric Boat participated in the construction of New Jersey alongside thousands of suppliers across the country, including more than 100 in New Jersey who support submarine construction."

bellcurve: looks like just the sort of govt-funded trough defence and nclear industry people would love to get their snouts into.

Remember, if it's been discussed in the AUKUS framework it's as certain as night follows day.

And da. It's got a ring to it.
