Something to consider with these kind of 'new' technologies. Below are articles on how the Oculus Rift started and where it wound up in the span of two years.

    2012:

The Oculus Rift virtual gaming prototype we tried out with John Carmack has come to Kickstarter. Oculus, led by VR enthusiast Palmer Luckey, is building what it hopes will be one of the first feasible head-mounted VR displays for gaming; it's asking for at least $250,000 to perfect and ship developer versions of the device by December.

    2014:

Facebook plans to purchase Oculus VR, maker of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, for $2 billion. The deal is comprised of $400 million in cash and 23.1 million shares of Facebook stock. Facebook announced its surprise purchase via a blog post. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also revealed Facebook's reasons for the deal. "Oculus's mission is to enable you to experience the impossible. Their technology opens up the possibility of completely new kinds of experiences," Zuckerberg said.

New technology is always overlooked until it suddenly becomes relevant.

What has this got to do with Nuheara?

The release will also mean for the first time a smartphone connectable device, with sophisticated sound augmentation capabilities, can be purchased off the shelf by consumers.

The relatively low-cost device is the first stage of a futuristic plan to develop the device for the gaming world, Curtin’ Head of School of Electrical Engineering and Computing Professor Kevin Fynn say.

“The ultimate aim is develop IQbuds into a device that incorporates the technology into a virtual reality experience,” Prof Fynn says.

“This means when you move your head audio of the wearers desire is streamed directly into the 3D virtual world,” he says.

3D audio has not kept pace with 3D visual because developing the technology to create a multi-dimensional audio environment is a much more difficult thing to do, Prof Fynn says.

“The device will advance in the virtual direction as technology permits because to do this a computer or recorded audio stream needs to be replayed into the virtual space and tracked,” he says.

Project team leader Professor Sven Nordholm says the team’s work is at the forefront of research in the audio technology area, because the science is understanding how you perceive the environment around you.

Again. The information is out there. Something to consider. I wouldn't write Nuheara off as a one-trick pony.
