re: nuisance phone calls/display no's If you use a phone that has number display on it, easy to answer the no. you recognise and switch it to answer machine mode if you don't.
Most of the call centres do not leave messages on answering machines, nor sales callers.
Quite a few people are switching off landlines for private use and using prepaids or mobiles to talk to family and friends. Saves 33 a month line costs plus the calls. I know of several people who have a cheaper deal with mobiles and never use landline, but if you use the net then you need the landline.
I have two mobiles, one is for business the other a prepaid for private use. Buy a $30 prepaid card and get 300 mins free, or $50 card gets 500 minutes freetime an optus deal when you call other optus prepaid customers. We all bought the same phone with the same deal, so I talk to family and friends for free.
The other mobile deal is an hours call free everyday, so I make most of my std calls at that time.
I seldom receive unsolicited calls on the mobiles
cheers
